    Re: Anti-Consolidation Rally

I believe consolidation has to happen. But the 2 in 1 plan is the most idiotic idea ive ever heard. Build three schools, 1 in Wise, 1 in BSG, 1 in Coeburn. The End.

Where do they keep getting the 1 site Idea from? Why do they have such a hardon for it?

Need more money appropriated from the BOS to do anything else (in terms of new schools) is the way I understand it.

Im guessing they figure once they get em all on one site, it will be easy just to turn around and make it a 1-on-1. Ted Thompson wants to get rid of all sports and extracurricular activities, and that would be the path to it as there wouldn't be another AAA school close enough to compete.

You can offset some sports cost with the gate- I'd bet the other things like you mentioned go sooner.

At a BOS meeting a few weeks ago, Dr. Perry was asking the board to approve a plan by mid-November so the school system could apply for a state grant, which he believed they would qualify. He said the school board would consider any consolidation plan the BOS would approve, but this was time sensitive as the school board would need time apply for this multi-million dollar grant.
Then Fred Luntsford, ardent opponent of progress, asked what it would take for a 2-on-1 plan. He said he would support that because (and this is basically a direct quote) he hates the idea of consolidation but felt like because the two towns in his district (Appy and Pound) would be losing their schools, he wanted to see as many other communities lose theirs.
As I understand it, the three reps from Wise (Bates, Kilgore, and Atkins) each voted to approve a plan to build three new schools in BSG, Wise, and Coeburn...but they were the only three to vote "yea" on this. Then they voted to build two new schools in just Wise and BSG...but again they were the three to support this. Finally the 2-on-1 plan came to a vote and the three from Wise voted yea as well as district 1 reps, Luntsford (from Appy) and Short (from Pound).

That was the only way Appy was going to get a gym for the grade school. The people from BSG need to grow up and remember it not alway about you.

WRONG. Dr. Perry told Luntsford many many many times over the last 2 years that no matter what plan was chosen, the Gym funds would be attached to the project. If Fred had voted for a 3-on-3, 2-on-2 or whatever plan many moons ago, the elementary school would have already had it's gym.

Not until the new schools were built. Like I said, get over it because it's over get ready to travel to Wise.
